Improve Another Blog [Day 26 - 31DBBB] Posted: 01 May 2009 03:34 AM PDT When was the last time you made someone else’s blog better? Today’s task in the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog is to do just that - to improve a blog that is not yours. Most bloggers naturally spend the vast majority of their time improving their own blogs - but there can be a lot of good things happen when you spend time on other people’s blogs making them better in one way or another. I think it’s fairly obvious why it can be worth helping another blogger achieve their goals so won’t go into it too much except to say that there’s not many ways to make a better impression on another blogger than to help them achieve their goals for their blog. When you do this any number of benefits can come your way. The question is - how do you improve someone else’s blog?I’d love to hear your suggestions on this in comments below but let me mention just a few:
Really there is no limit to the ways that you can help another blogger improve their blog. The key is to ask yourself what their needs might be and attempt to fulfill those needs in some way. The key with this exercise is to do something significant for the other blog. Don’t just leave a comment on 50 blogs today - spend some significant time focusing your energy on one other blog in your niche. If it doesn’t go noticed by the other blogger don’t despair - hopefully in doing something for others you’ll learn something for yourself also, as well as getting a little good karma in the process! Let us know what good deed you do for another blogger today in comments below! Post from: Blog Tips at ProBlogger. |
Thesis WordPress Theme Version 1.5 Launches! Posted: 30 Apr 2009 05:33 PM PDT Regular readers of ProBlogger know that I’m a fan of Chris Pearson and his popular Thesis theme for WordPress. I’ve been using Thesis on TwiTip since I started that blog back in November and have been very satisfied with it. Chris has just launched version 1.5 of Thesis - a significant update upon the previous one. You can get a personal video tour of Thesis and many of the options and features that it has here. Also see the Demo site for Thesis where you can see it in action. Why I love Thesis?I’m not a designer - I am hopeless on anything related to design. For my two main blogs (ProBlogger and Digital Photography School) I’ve hired designers to come up with custom designs for my blogs. I intend to do this for TwiTip also at some point but while I’ve been building up the audience for that blog I wanted a clean and easy to use theme that would allow me to do a little customization. Keep in mind I’m hopeless on design - so it had to be very easy to use. I also wanted something affordable to get me through the start up phase of the blog so that I could get it earning some money to help me pay for a custom design. Thesis hit the mark for me. It’s easy to use, it’s a clean design in its default form and it has loads of customization options (see the video linked to above to see some of them). The other bonus of Thesis is that it’s well coded for SEO. TwiTip already ranks very well in Google, some of the credit for that is the coding of Thesis. The other bonus with Thesis is the community of bloggers that has sprung up around it. They have a forum where there’s heaps of good information on how to use and customize Thesis. Thesis costs $87 for a personal license or $164 for a developers license (where you can use it on as many blogs as you like). If you’re in the market for a theme for your WordPress blog Thesis is a theme that you’ll want to consider. Post from: Blog Tips at ProBlogger. |
